What This Does

Joule sits inside SAP's own implementation tools and answers plain-language questions about whether a client requirement already matches SAP Best Practice content or standard configuration. During fit-gap work, it can save you a manual search through documentation before you decide a requirement is a real gap.

Before You Start

• You are working inside the client's own SAP environment, not a demo tenant or your firm's internal sandbox. Joule's answers draw on that tenant's licensed content and configuration, so client-specific findings should stay inside client-approved SAP tools rather than a personal chatbot account.
• Your firm or the client has a qualifying SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Business Technology Platform, or SAP Signavio license that includes Joule. Coverage varies by contract, so ask the client's SAP Basis team or your solution architect whether Joule is enabled for this engagement before you rely on it.
• You know which module and process area you are checking. Joule answers more precisely when the question names a specific process (order-to-cash, intercompany billing) rather than a general one.

Steps

1. Find Joule in the environment you are working in

Joule shows up in more than one place across SAP's product line, so look for it wherever your project actually lives. Inside SAP Signavio, Joule now appears as a Process Consultant Agent that can propose process design changes and compare how a process performs across regions or legal entities. Inside an S/4HANA or Business Technology Platform tenant, ask your solution architect where Joule has been switched on for this project. Availability depends on the license and admin setup rather than a fixed menu location.

2. Ask a specific fit-to-standard question

Describe the client's requirement the way you would to a colleague, and ask whether SAP's standard content already covers it. Name the module and the specific process step rather than asking something broad.

3. Check the sources before you trust the answer

A recent Joule update added a source panel that groups the citations and evidence behind an answer. Open it before you repeat the answer to a client. Cross-check anything Joule cites against the actual SAP Help documentation or Best Practice content, especially before writing it into a fit-gap list.

Scenario: During an intercompany billing workshop, the client describes a three-entity flow (a service company bills a distribution entity, which bills the end customer) and asks whether SAP handles it out of the box.

Tips
