Use NetSuite's Text Enhance to Draft Clear Help Text for Custom Fields
For ERP Implementation Consultants ·
What This Does
Text Enhance writes, rewrites, or shortens text directly inside a NetSuite record without you leaving the platform. For a consultant building custom fields and forms, it turns a rough description of what a field does into help text an end user will actually read, in the same screen where you are already configuring the field.
Before You Start
- You are working in the client's own NetSuite account. Text Enhance drafts against that account's records and terminology, not a generic template, so keep the drafting inside the client's tenant rather than a personal AI tool.
- Text Enhance is enabled for the account. It is not a separate paid add-on. An administrator enables it at Setup > Company > Enable Features, on the SuiteCloud tab, by checking Generative AI with Text Enhance and accepting Oracle's AI terms of service. If you do not see a sparkle icon in a supported field, ask the client's NetSuite administrator whether the feature has been switched on yet.
- You know which field or record you are drafting help text for. Text Enhance currently appears on item records, case records, customer records, vendor bills, journal entries, and SuiteCommerce content, and NetSuite has been expanding the list of supported fields.
Steps
1. Open the record and find the sparkle icon
Navigate to the record with the field you want to add help text to. A small sparkle icon appears inside supported text fields. If your custom field does not show one, it is not yet on NetSuite's supported list, or the feature has not been enabled for your account.
2. Choose an action
Click the sparkle icon to open the enhancement panel. Four options appear. Generate writes new text from a short description. Rewrite improves a draft you already have. Summarize and Make Shorter tighten a long explanation. Expand adds detail to a sparse one.
3. Review the draft and insert it
Read the generated text against how the field actually behaves once configured. Edit anything that misdescribes the field's real logic. Then click Insert to apply it to the record.
Real Example
Scenario: You have added a custom field to the sales order form called "Expedite Reason" that only appears when a customer requests rush fulfillment, and the warehouse team keeps leaving it blank because nobody is sure when to fill it in.
What you type into the enhancement panel: "Explain to a warehouse associate that this field should be filled in only when a customer has requested rush fulfillment, and that it should name the specific reason: customer request, backorder recovery, or service recovery."
What you get: A short, plain-language help text draft describing exactly when to use the field and the three valid reasons, ready to review and insert.
Tips
- Draft help text for a whole form in one sitting. Doing several fields back to back keeps the tone and reading level consistent across the form.
- Use Rewrite on help text a prior consultant already wrote if it reads like internal jargon instead of end-user language.
- Check generated text against the field's actual validation rules before you insert it. Text Enhance describes the field based on your prompt, not the live configuration, so a rule you forgot to mention will not show up in the draft.
Tool interfaces change. If a button has moved, look for similar AI/sparkle options in the same field area.
